Bolinas /// James Lewis Tucker & Chris Fritton

from 200.00

Bolinas and Stinson Beach are almost on the opposite ends of the Northern California beach town spectrum even though they are only separated by a narrow inlet. Mount Tam looms large above them as if telling her children to play nice. A sunset in each town always ends with one staring into the endless Pacific where towns boundaries don't mean much.

Being in these places and observing the sky, flora, and topography I started with gestural ink washes and dozens of photographs of the sky at different points of the day. Back in my studio I mixed inks to replicate the sky gradients and ran split fountain linoleum block letterpress prints. The topography of each location was then embedded into the paper with no ink, leaving a blind impression. Lastly, the ink washes were made into halftone plates and printed in another pass riding across the sky plate
